The mission of the Department is to cultivate a rich and diverse English language environment, enabling students to attain exemplary standards in language learning and acquisition. Our aim is to equip them to become resourceful, versatile, and esteemed members of the global community.
Course Objectivies
At the core of English language acquisition lies the act of communication—whether it unfolds in face-to-face interactions, written discourse, or the reading of literature. Through the study of English, students gain profound insights into the cultures that utilize the language. Mastery of English should forge connections to a broader spectrum of knowledge. Additionally, we promote cultural awareness by integrating literature from various backgrounds into the curriculum. By engaging in comparative analyses with their primary language and culture, Chinese, students develop a heightened awareness of diverse worldviews. Together, the interconnected elements of communication, culture, connection, and comparison empower English learners to engage in multilingual communities both locally and globally, adapting to various contexts with cultural sensitivity.
The pedagogical approach to English language instruction at the junior secondary level seeks to establish a robust foundation through differentiated curricula that acknowledge the varied proficiency levels among students. Instruction will, wherever feasible, be contextualized, employing role plays and authentic situations to reflect real-world applications of English.
